Vertical Vertigo

Okay, so I created this at open studios.  Does it look vertical – yes – it should.  I created it with tape.  I lay the tape over sections of newspaper and peel it up.   With the tape come color and shapes.  I lay those segments down to make the miniature collage.  I love the outcome – how about you?

Circle of Thoughts

This card was inspired by some work I did in a class. We were writing words as materials for our work.  I did some in a circle and liked the way they looked when I turned the paper upside down and you couldn’t read them!  So that’s what I did today.  I wrote some words in a circle (stream of consciousness) and then turned the paper over and glued it down.  I added some yellow watercolor and called it a wrap.  That’s because I am working hard to get ready for Fountain Street Open Studios tomorrow.  I don’t have a lot of time to spare.  Enjoy and I hope to see you tomorrow or this weekend…

Grab What You Can Reach!

That’s what I did to create today’s postcard.  Literally just items in easy reach.  I started with a magazine scrap cut out yesterday.  To that I added two scrap pieces of wax paper.  Then I glued down some matte medium peelings from my table.  I had a spool of orangey thread that I grabbed and wrapped around the postcard.  To try to unite the whole thing I took a bit of gold acrylic and matte medium and painted over everything.  That didn’t do much, so I did it again using black acrylic.  That worked better.  Then I glued down a very thin scrap of magazine I found at hand.  Lastly, while it was still wet, I painted into some of the areas formed by the thread with black watercolor.

More is Better

There were so many steps to this card.  I started by gluing down scraps of newspaper.  The newspaper was covered by tracing paper with a black rubbing on it.  From there I moved to watercolor.  First some black applied in a watery wash to dull down the colors.  Then I added the wax paper shapes with the black ink.  I went back to watercolor and traced those with crimson and then starting adding yellow around the edges.  The finishing touch was the yellow tulle which coalesced all of the elements.  For some reason it has a map like quality to me.
